I know what beta blockers are commonly used for but I am having a hard time understanding how they would help with anxiety. Does anyone know anything about them helping? Are there any known side effects from being on them?

I believe they alter how the body reacts to epinephrine. This is a hormone that is responsible for the flight or fight response people often feel when having a panic attack. It is said to curb the severity and reduce anxiety and greatly reduce the number of panic attacks a person can have. I don’t know anyone using it but I have looked into it as an option for myself several years back. I have low blood pressure so I was not able to take it.

In non-science-speak, they basically tell your brain to slow down. This allows your mind, emotions, and everything to have the edge taken off. It allows the mind to relax which allows the body to relax. Not everyone can take these though!
