I read that for those of us who get anxiety-induced migraines, ice can help. Apparently, these kinds of migraines are actually “tension headaches” and result from the physical stress of tightening the shoulders which pulls down on the neck and leads to occipital nerve inflammation. I read putting ice on the base of your skull can help. Anyone try this?
I get tension headaches with or without anxiety and I often will ice my neck and it does help! I would not have made the connection for this but it makes sense. People who have stress and anxiety tense up more and it can strain the back and shoulders.
Anytime I get a stress headache, I will ice my head. It seems to help but takes a long time. I will give this a try next time my head is hurting and see if it helps. Thanks for sharing about this. I would have never thought to try something like this!
I think this is normal because most people think to ice the part that hurts but the source of the pain is often from the neck, shoulders, or base of the skull. I am glad I learned this otherwise I would have had so many more days just laying around in pain.
I get these too and I would have never thought to put ice on my neck! My head hurts but my neck hardly ever does. I will try this. I tend to get a few headaches a week on average. If it helps get rid in minutes, I would be thankful. Mine usually last for a few hours.
